When you exhale, do it on purpose

I recently met with two new clients. Like many folks who work with me, both have explored various coaching and modalities over the years. It wouldn’t be fair to say either are totally fresh to this work, but they’ve never done an “inner voice session” or “intuition coaching” or “An Hour of Answers” like what we do together.

As I introduced the specific practice I guide clients through, I was reminded of how incredibly useful it is to exhale when thoughts arise. We know this! If you work with me, we do this every session! Yet, it’s really easy to forget in everyday life.

When the mind holds onto a thought, it holds the breath too. If you want to get through the spirals of overthinking and regain access to your inner knowing, try this:

  • notice a pesky thought pattern

  • realize that it’s bugging you

  • Pause to blow the thought away

  • As you exhale, settle your attention back within the body

As you continue to settle into fall rhythms, come back to your breath. Let those pesky thoughts out. Use your exhale to blow thoughts away, just like you’d blow away little bugs flying around your face.

Reflect on these prompts to find space when you’re fine, but also totally panicking about the calendar:

  • is this a priority?

  • why? or why not?

  • can it wait? until when?

  • what’s “good enough”?

Practice these rituals to reset your energy in a moment:

  • Pick the things that you can put down

  • Sleep on it

  • Take a shower

  • Clear your desk

  • Do a one-minute gut check

  • Use your inner voice instead of ChatGPT
