Soothing Sunday Overwhelm
Posted by Kaileen Elise on August 29th, 2010The time to relax is when you don’t have time for it.

Sunday Overwhelm usually strikes in the mid-afternoon—right around the time when I realize that my alarm is set at 6:00 am the next day, and the hustle and bustle of another week is just around the corner.
The magic of creative weekends is replaced with stress. I worry about to-do’s usually ignored and left to the last hour—laundry, grocery shopping and paying bills.
Today, I find myself on the brink of a Sunday pity party. It’s be a lovely & quiet weekend filled with snuggling, coffee and productive moments online—and yet, I can hear that little voice inside starting to pitch a fit about dressing up in work clothes tomorrow morning.
I’d like to approach my Sunday afternoons with grace, and accept this time as an important part of my week that helps the rest of my days flow smoothly. Today my goal is to smile, breathe and practice some seriously positive self-talk as I get ready for another week.
Do you suffer from Sunday Overwhelm? Have you found ways to sooth the pangs of annoying agenda items in your life? I would love your thoughts and suggestions on the topic, as it’s been an area of challenge for me this summer.

This is something I’ve been battling with for too long, but I finally think I’ve found a cure, which, incidentally, I’m about to blog about!
I see Sunday evenings as a time to quietly prepare for the week ahead – to relax with a view to enjoy the following five days of productivity with a smile!
Sunday Syndrome (as I call it) strikes every week, even during the rare times when the week to come has little stress and events. In fact, I think one of my kitties has Sunday syndrome, so her advice as she does every Sunday is to sleep the day away. Unfortunately, that is usually not an option for me.
So what do I do? At this point, I’ve just accepted it. While I can try to wish it away or trick myself it won’t be so bad, I find that never works. For now, it is what it is. And at least it will be over tomorrow.
I had the same dreadful feelings last Sunday! This week is better, though. I’m crediting some intensive journal & creative writing to this week’s improved state!
I know much of this a call to start my own business vs. the 9 to 5. It’s a BIG step, though…one I’m still working through.
Yeah- I am not in the best of moods on Sunday- lol. I am usually torn between relaxing so I can have a productive work week, and actually catching up on the work that I didn’t manage to finish during the previous week..Plus the joys of house work..lol..I try to do whatever I am doing while being fully ‘present’- whether it be work or play..Ofcourse I don’t always succeed.. Enjoy your Sunday!
I’m starting a new job tomorrow after having taken a lot of time off from work. I used to have the same problem at my old job and even today, I’m already getting stressed about all the to-dos I have left. I used to try to relax by taking a bath, or going to bed a little earlier so that I could read in order to calm down. I think some light yoga/meditation would do wonders. Being organized also helps me to start off the week on the right foot too. Hope you have a lovely rest of your day.
I think I have what is called “Sunday Panic”. I am panicked on Sundays. I think it usually has to do with making sure I get enough rest so that I don’t start off the week ‘tired’. I cope by not having much on my plate on Sundays. My family and friends are aware that I am not a fan of parties on Sundays. That would just be too much for my psyche to handle. I love gentle Sundays.
I laughed when I read this because my first thought was I’m glad it’s not only me. For me, Sundays are when all the things I’ve put off during the week come home to roost. And because I have my own set of chores to do on the weekend it can easily translate into an uneasy feeling-not what Sundays afternoons are supposed to represent. Trying to be more proactive during the week is my attempt at a solution.
