A Carefree Reverie

Sit in reverie and watch the changing color of the waves
that break upon the idle seashore of the mind.
(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow)

I sometimes daydream of spending my days tucked away in a sleepy beach town…

I picture myself sipping lattes in a vibrant coffee shop and practicing yoga on a rock overlooking the Pacific. In these dreamy moments, constraints of time & money do not exist. Logistics, realistic possibility and geography play no part in my reverie.

I travel around the world, my MacBook and basic essentials in tow. I stay in fancy hotels, befriend stunningly entertaining souls, and eat in restaurants only locals frequent.

My mind is open, kind and carefree. My bank account full, my body slim and strong. I carry postcards and stamps to send loving updates to those who matter. I journal, blog and photograph my journey.

The sun shines, rain falls, and the moderate weather shifts quietly from one season to the next. I dance late into the night, sleep soundly and wake up each day feeling energized.

I snowboard, surf and enjoy leisurely jogs. I indulge in red wine and decadent cupcakes with grace. I hear inspiring teachers speak and talented musicians play. I share my gifts with the world and experience abundance in return.

… and then sometimes I wake up from my daydream, only to realize that my life’s pretty great. I have so much to be thankful for and tons of exciting opportunities on the horizon. Thanks for being part of my extraordinary adventure!

  1. But isn’t dreaming fun?? I firmly believe that people who can relax and let their mind wander are all the healthier for it. Great post ;-)

That is a fantastic dream! If you find the secret to achieving it, please let us know. For now, we will continue to live as extraordinary as possible.

  3. Another lovely post. Daydreams can be quite telling, can’t they? We’re yearning to indulge some part of ourselves that isn’t getting enough “airtime” in our daily lives. Perhaps articulating our daydreams out loud (or writing them down, as you have) is the first step toward incorporating more of what we’re seeking into our “real” lives.

  4. Great post! My mom and sister live in Lincoln City, OR – a sleepy little beach town if I’ve ever known one. Every time I visit I fantasize about just no going back, and spending my days living very similarly to how you put it. Then, of course, I go home and find that I missed more of my life here than I thought I would. Maybe we could find ways to incorporate bits and pieces of both sides into our one, current living moment.

    Life is good. :)

  5. wow: i want to be in that place with you! it’s a true gift to celebrate what life offers—so freely—to those who dream of it’s goodness!

i know your life will include all of these wonderful things, and more! but you are right: it is good! so good, in fact, that there is much to be grateful for.
