Craving Time & Cooler Temperatures
Posted by Kaileen Elise on August 10th, 2010Don’t say you don’t have enough time.
You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to
Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo Da Vinci,
Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

It’s ironic how in the depths of winter I pray for sunshine, warmth and backyard cookouts with friends. Now that summer has arrived and settled in for awhile, I’m counting down the days to bid it farewell.
I know I should embrace summer while she’s here, but something in me is longing for autumn’s colors, pumpkin spice lattes and the resurgence of leggings. Since it is supposed to be 97˚ in Raleigh today, I guess we have a ways to go before scarves and boots make it to the front of our closets.
In addition to cooler temperatures, I’ve found myself craving time for yoga, creative pursuits and cooking healthy meals.
Thanks to a few remarkable women, I’ve stumbled upon a delightful book about the paradigm shift I’ve been unknowingly craving. Take a look at Laura Vanderkam’s website for an introduction to the concept, or pick up her book for insights on better utilizing the 168 hours in your week.
I tracked my hours last week and began reading the book on Saturday. A few pages in, I was hooked. I like Vanderkam’s style and message—having it all is possible if you’re willing to stick to your priorities and focus on activities that move you towards your goals.
This week, I’m going for another round of tracking my time in 30-minute blocks. If you’re interested in joining in, check out this free time management spreadsheet. If you’ve read 168 Hours, I’m interested in hearing your thoughts on the subject.

I’m intending to track my 168 hours a week in September. Really interested in this project. Will let you know how I go!
Sounds like a great wonderful way to become more conscious of where our time goes! I, for one, am totally guilty of wasting hours on mindless tasks and then complaining that I don’t have enough time. You’re so right though – we have exactly as much time as we need, if we use it wisely. It reminds me of a quote by Brian Andreas: “Everything changed the day she realized there was exactly enough time for the important things in her life.”
As soon as I saw your title, I exclaimed YES!! And then continued throughout this post. I could not possibly agree more…with every part!! Fall – please hurry.
I’ve been feeling the exact same way lately! It’s been in the upper 90′s for weeks – hit 104 the other day, actually – and I’ve been literally dreaming of the Fall. It definitely seems harder to make good use of your time when it’s so bleedin hot outside.
I’m so like you
Plus, fall is my favorite season of all, can’t wait to start wearing cute colourful tights again
:):)
I’m intrigued. And I love the quote you began the post with. It really makes you put your priorities in perspective and more than encourages you to make your dreams a reality.
Augh I am officially OVER the summer. I know I’m going to regret saying that, esp. come January/February, but I am sick of sweating every where I go!
