Keeping Your Calm

The most important skill in staying calm is not to lose sleep over small issues.
The second most important skill is to be able to view all issues as small issues.
(Paul Wilson)

I lost my calm this weekend. Along with it, my Coach wristlet, license, credit card, camera and favorite lip gloss vanished into thin air. Some act of sheer providence saved my iPhone, which was in my hand when I realized my purse and its contents were gone.

The disappearing act took place late into the night on Saturday, proving once again that nothing good happens after 2 a.m. I’m a bit frustrated and confused that this happened because it wasn’t a crazy night. In a time when identity theft and other unsavory crimes are abundant, there’s a nakedness in losing important bits of plastic.

I’m heading to the DMV today, which will undoubtedly provide time for quiet contemplation. I’m trying to step back and see this as an opportunity to evaluate some of my standard operating procedures. It feels like there’s room for improvement:

more mindfulness. less coffee. more sleep. less pressure. more movement. less tension. more time enjoying friends. less indulgence. more calm. less chaos. more journaling. less judging. more joy. less worry. more laughter. less sass. more love.

Of course, life goes on. I’ve canceled the card and started searching for a shiny new camera. I know where to find my favorite lip gloss and Coach has some amazing writstlets for sale this season.

  1. I am so sorry to hear that your Coach clutch along with all your other possessions was lost. I hope you are able to replace everything with relative ease. I am not sure if you have a Coach Outlet in your area, but the one here has Coach clutches on sale for around $30-$40 and they are super cute.

  2. !!!!!! oh no.

Just Breathe and focus on your “mores” :)

  3. I’m so sorry to hear this happened to you. I can see why you lost your calm over it…I would too.
    XO Piper

  4. Oh, lovely lady…I am sending every ounce of calm and reassurance that I have your way. I know how hard these things can be but I promise you that soon enough things will be back to normal. Thinking of you.

  5. I’m sorry to hear what happened, at least everything is replaceable and that you didn’t lose your iPhone. You have already taken the steps to replace your license and credit cards. I just hope that you didn’t have too many photos on your camera.

I lost my license after a club years ago. The guy who found it was nice enough to call me to say he has it. He returned it, along with my money that was tucked into the plastic holder of my license. I hope that someone is kind enough to return what you lost. Here’s to wishful thinking!

  6. Oh my gosh that sucks! Knock on wood, I’ve never had my purse stolen but I can only imagine how you feel. Fortunately, everything is replaceable, and you get a new wristlet in the process!

  7. Oh doll, I’m terribly sorry! It’s so beyond frustrating to lose something like a purse… I know I’m very strangely emotionally attached to my purse and its belongings so I’d be tres upset. You have a great attitude towards it (as always). xoxo
