Making Priorities a Priority
Posted by kaileenelise on March 8th, 2010
Decide what you want, decide what you are willing to exchange for it.
Establish your priorities and go to work.
(H. L. Hunt)
It’s been awhile since I sat down and took stock of my priorities. I feel like I’ve been swept up by life’s demands and have done little to anchor myself. I don’t know about you, but I have a tendency to get overwhelmed by my ambition. When I think about all the things I want to do, all the places I want to see and all the people I want to meet—I lose sight of the tiny treats my everyday life can offer.
Does this ever happen to you?
In order to make every day of this week extraordinary, I’m going to…
to take my time
sip peppermint tea
keep a gratitude list
remind myself that I’m doing enough
enjoy the ride
be patient with myself
send some snail mail
practice yoga
snuggle with my mister
read some blogs
smile at strangers
make my priorities a priority!

this sounds like the perfect way to reconnect to the little things that make each day worth living. hugs!!
I love this! Since March 1 I’ve been keeping a gratitude journal and it has really been helping me to focus on the positives which is one of my March goals.
I’ve cut back on my peppermint tea consumption and have picked up Tazo Zen again. Back to my Starbucks days.

My dear, remember the most important thing on this list – be patient with myself. If you can remember that, all the other things will come with time. Also, just so you know, you’re doing great.
A wonderful list. It’s good to know that feeling overwhelmed by life’s potential isn’t exclusive to me.
I especially like ‘smile at strangers’ on your list. Yesterday, a woman accidentally elbowed me in the street – she turned around to apologise and I simply growled rudely at her and carried on. As soon as I’d moved away, I regretted not smiling and telling her it was fine, I almost wanted to go back and apologise for being so rude!
I think I need my own list at the moment!
What a perfectly lovely list! Enjoy a sparkly Tuesday.. xo
i had to make a list like this recently, too. i nailed down my top ten priorities, and everytime i go to do something, i scan it over. didn’t make the cut? it’ll get done later! take good care of yourself, sweet girl. “there are a million ways to kiss the ground” (rumi paraphrasing) xo
I too get overwhelmed by my ambition – sometimes don’t think I’m moving fast enough, or doing enough, or just getting what I want enough. That’s a great list. Always good to take a deep breath and slow down!
Seriously, I need to do this as well. I don’t make the most important things a priority. I need to be better about that.
Your priorities are, in the words of Mary Poppins, “Practically perfect in every way.” Sometimes you really just need to slow down and enjoy the simple luxuries life has to offer.
If only we didn’t have to work for a living. That is the way I see it, too many fun things to do that enrich us other than work. Many people that retire say, they don’t know how they worked all those years they have found so much to do in retirement.
