November Goals

Almost everything—all external expectations,
all pride, all fear of embarrassment or
failure—these things just fall away in the
face of death, leaving only what is truly important.
Remembering that you are going to die is the best way
I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have
something to lose. You are already naked.
There is no reason not to follow your heart.
(Steve Jobs)

As I consider my goals and priorities in November, the prevailing thought that comes to mind is of gratitude. This goes nicely with the spirit of Thanksgiving, but I think it’s more than just good timing.

The last few months I have really worked on embracing my creative side and expanding my network. I have developed a better idea of my passions and have spent time cultivating my sense of self.

Here is a list of things I want to be mindful of and grateful for this month:

Healthyoga, fruits, veggies, sleep, water, tea, run, breathe

Peacejournal time, meditation, book baths, time management, routines, rituals

Wealthspend mindfully, budget wisely, pay bills with a smile

Happinessspread love, live in the moment, dwell in possibility, make room for dreams

As you may remember, my theme for fall is staying focused, frugal and fun. I plan on continuing the 3 Fs theme into this month, building on the progress I have made so far:

I have been “off” coffee for 5 weeks and have every intention of keeping the streak alive. I enjoy not feeling like I need to stop at Starbucks to wake up in the morning. I also like the micro meditation I am able to fit in while my tea steeps.

One of my goals for October was to get back to the mat. I went to class once, which is not much to brag about. I know that practicing yoga makes me feel better in mind and body, but for some reason I am avoiding it. This month I want to uncover the real reason why I’m skipping out on yoga when I know is good for me.

Another “focused” goal for me last month was to get my blog-twitter-social-media-life under control. I have made progress in connecting with great bloggers and my google reader is a lot less overwhelming. In November I am planning on writing posts in advance and reaching out to those of you who take the time to comment (PS: I love it when you do that).

I have made some good strides towards being more frugal. Now the real test is in sticking to my budget through the holidays! My plan is to keep things simple and creative. I want my presents to come from my heart, not the mall.

October was a lot of fun with weekend visits with friends and Grey’s Anatomy nights. I bought myself flowers. I indulged in a book bath more than once. I created a new Thursday night Raspberry Chai Tea Latte routine. Halloween was a blast.

November is looking like a wonderful month. Full of love, fire-colored leaves, mashed potatoes and stuffing!

  1. Wonderful goals! I love the focused, frugal, and fun theme. Sounds like you’re on your way.

  2. Looks like you are well on your way to a wonderful month, here is raising a cup of chai to your success. :)

  3. I’ve been avoiding yoga for the past few weeks as well. I’d love to hear if you can figure out why you’ve been doing it because I haven’t really been able to. I am hoping to break the dry spell and go to a class tonight.

    Also….raspberry chai tea latte? Yum!!!

  4. Love the Thursday night raspberry chai routine! Now, if you can pay bills with a smile I applaud you and want to know the secret!

  5. Wow, so many points have resonated with me in this post… As I sit here this lovely fall morning sipping my Teeccino {a delicious coffee/tea alternative I’ve discovered as I too am “off” coffee} this has really made me look inward and focus on the things I too am inspired to address {and be grateful for} this month. Thank you!

  6. I like the ideas of the micro meditation and tea steeping. I employ the “don’t pick up the cell phone on the first ring” meditation. Breath, g
ground, take in the ring, then answer ;)

and the gifts from your heart are way cuter for sure.

  7. It sounds like you have a delightfully content month coming your way!

I love your gift giving philosophy–when I get gift from people, those are the ones I remember and cherish.

I never paid bills with a smile until I found some online program that keeps track of all your expenses and income at the same time, so the number I see there is what I watch during the month, and that doesn’t change after paying bills. Phew.

  8. What wonderful goals! You really have such a positive and level headed outlook on things. Even if you can’t accomplish it all at once, you eventually will find a balance that allows you to do things that are most important.

I am so glad that you reached out to your bloggie/twitter friends. I think you’re such a wonderufl person and adore being friends with.

    Yay for November!

p.s. Yay for tea and water and being coffee clean. I’m here for you if you need me.

  9. Darling, I have absolutely love this post! You are doing so well with your 3 F’s theme. Good luck!!

  10. these goals are so heartfelt and so wise. i share many of them—which is why i find myself visiting your blog more & more! i truly treasure some of the inspiration found here: it is revealing and raw, but not “over my head” or so far out there that my heart shrinks and says “all that goodness, that’s just for her…” way to find the balance between those things, a solid place to stand. and to share from that place, yes, yes yes! we are all so blessed for that!
